Meet Zackery Wilson

Posted on July 22nd, 2012

We would like to introduce for you our good friend and new Ubiktune artist — Zackery Wilson. His recent work "GAME OVERture" is a single-movement piece for brass quintet and fixed media. The project was written last fall at the University of Texas at Austin, where he currently attending as graduate student, pursuing the doctorate in music composition. That's what Zack told us about this project:

"In addition to my (seemingly endless) academic career (primarily writing "classical music"), I've been a huge video game music enthusiast throughout my life (like so many people my age). So, it's only natural that I'd want to try and combine the two distant genres of music. "GAME OVERture" is a direct result of my interests in combining/juxtaposing these two types: live instruments (of the classical tradition) and chipmusic. As a live performance piece, "GAME OVERture" is intended to shake up the rather (at times) stuffy classical music venue, perhaps injecting some life into an almost archaic art. In other words, this ain't your granddaddy's classical music."

Following its completion, the piece was premiered by Brass Architecture (Jared Broussard, Aaron Ney, Paul Blackstone, Jeremy Marks, and Daniel Frost) in April 2012.
